Friends

Weird. How you categorize people into this list. First they're mere acquaintances. Then you realize you either like the same women, smoke the same cigarette, like the same place to hang out, drool over the same sports cars, hate the same Air Deccan, follow the same open source movement or simply share similar thoughts and suddenly you see them not just as acquaintances but now they've slowly moved into the list of people you've branded "Friends". You expect the same treatment you mete out. Frantically return all those calls whether or not you're very excited about doing so. If this new 'Friend' is on a higher plane than you (either due to his* emotional/economical/positional/influential stance over you) then you are careful not to hurt/disappoint him.
After a while, you grow on each other. Good humoured insults are welcome. You allow one to bank on the other. Taking one another for granted is allowed (although not entirely welcome). Comfort sets in. And here’s where the problem begins.
